For the past three years, The Handmade Teddy Bear Maker has crafted deeply personal memorial bears from the clothing of loved ones who have passed away. From the NHS to Full-Time Creativity: Becoming The Handmade Teddy Bear Maker
Before dedicating herself fully to creating keepsakes, Leah worked within the NHS. But as Milo’s additional needs grew, she made the difficult decision to step back from her role. This turning point allowed her to embrace her true artistic calling and step fully into her role as The Handmade Teddy Bear Maker — a title she carries with pride and purpose.
A Sign from Above: The Moment Lolabears Was Born
In early 2025, Leah felt an undeniable creative pull — the urge to design something truly her own. Then, a touching moment changed everything. A Charlie Bear gifted by her Nan suddenly fell from a shelf and landed directly on her. Leah saw it as a sign of love and encouragement: It’s time to create your own bears. From that moment, she began her journey as The Handmade Teddy Bear Maker, building Lolabears with the same love her Nan had given her.
The Lolabears name honours two important influences: her beloved Pomeranian, Lola, and the memory of her Nan. Both continue to inspire The Handmade Teddy Bear Maker in every pattern, paw, and stitch.
